Testing finished. Now, treatment options

Finished lung function tests today, picked up path slides, 3 path reports, MRI report, pulmonary notes, PET scan report, all for faxing to second-opinion doc. This required visits to 3 floors of the hospital and one office across the street. Minor victory this morning: determined that the radiation oncologist my doc wants me to use is in the Unicare network WITHOUT PHONING UNICARE. Took only 10 minutes and 4 phone calls to (1) doc's office (2) physician billing (3) hospital billing (4) back to physician billing. Meet tomorrow with oncologist to discuss pros/cons of 2 different treatment approaches. Once treatment approach and schedule are set, watch this space to find out whether Christmas Eve open house is on or off (at this writing, it's on, but you never know). Much love.

Argh!!! Wrote out a "comment," had trouble remembering my password for my Google account, was timed out of the blog page in the process, and lost the whole long, lovely text I wrote which would have brought joy and tears to everyone everywhere, leading to world peace. So let me write this instead:
It all sounds so familiar. It appears that all friends are great and all insurance companies and HMOs are hateful, despicable, and worse. The only people I have ever wanted to throttle to a mishapened pulp (other than anyone who has ever stopped at the top of an escalator and looked around when I'm the next one off) were everyone at Blue Cross Blue Shield. All the advice I could give, you have already gotten or intuited. Heidi's Fund has granted to Gilda's Club twice, including a grant to fund the translation into Spanish of the very first club's outreach brochure. They are now venerable and highly recommended (Andre de Shields' sister-in-law praises them). I can also recommend Cancer Hope Network: http://www.cancerhopenetwork.org/
Am still sending you this year's Fund letter, though it's full of cancer-talk. You are an old friend of the Fund, so there's nothing for it. Please excuse. Ginger and I feel far away and helpless, but you know that if you need a week/weekend/whatever in a room with a view of Manhattan, we're here. L-O-V-E, lots.
